Tuia Mātauranga Te Tai Tokerau Education Programme

Te Au Mārie Trust invested in bringing the Ministry of Education’s Tuia Mātauranga roadshow to Te Tai Tokerau communities and schools.

Tuia Mātauranga is an interactive programme that supports teaching and learning, highlighting local people, places, and events that help shape our nation's histories.

The programme aims to inspire children and young people to explore their own stories of who they are and where they come from, developing a more in-depth knowledge of their whakapapa and identity whilst also allowing visitors to understand, acknowledge and appreciate the people and places that they visit.

The Roadshow commenced on 5 October 2020 in Whangarei, and concluded on 1 December in Ruakākā.

Children, whānau and communities were invited to take part in shared learning experiences of fun and engaging activities, including takeaway activity books, mobile app supported activities, conversation cards, and a virtual-reality experience.

Over 100 school sessions and 33 community open days were held in 15 Te Tai Tokerau communities
